1929 Pierce-Arrow Model 133

1929 Pierce-Arrow Model 133

In 1929 Pierce-Arrow was purchased outright by the Studebaker Corporation who sent their models in a healthy new direction. Abandoned was the 6-cylinder of year’s previous, and instead an entirely new 8-cylinder was fitted.

Along with the new engine, a range of lower and longer bodies were offered. 12 different bodies were offered on the 133-wheelbase Model 133 (sometimes called Model 125) and 7 were different bodies offered on the longer 143-wheelbase Model 143.

Unlike the earlier detachable-head design, the new 8-cylinder was an integral unit, having 9-main bearings and an L-Head valvetrain arrangement. It was also 100 lbs lighter than the outgoing 6-cylinder and offered almost 25% more horsepower.

1929 Pierce-Arrow Model 133 Club Brougham 2007674 – did not sell for $37,500. This stately and very attractive 1929 Pierce-Arrow Model 133 Club Brougham has a well-known history within the Pierce-Arrow Society, and is listed as one of six known examples within the 2001 Pierce-Arrow Register. Today, it continues to benefit from the long-term care of its prior owner, a machinist who rebuilt all mechanical, electrical and chassis components between 1989 and 2006. It features a recent exterior refinish, complemented by many desirable features including dual side mounted spare tires with original Pierce-Arrow mirrors, wire wheels with new snap rings, a luggage rack and a body-colored trunk. While the brightwork and interior were restored some time ago, they remain very attractive. Auction Source: 2009 Meadow Brook Concours
