Ferrari 550 Barchetta Pininfarina

Revealed at the 2000 Paris Motor Show (as a 2001 model year car), Ferrari’s new 550 Barchetta following the 550 which continued Ferrari’s long line of exclusive front engine V-12s. The Barchetta was built to celebrate Pininfarina’s 70th anniversary.

Special features included a more sporting interior featuring leather-wrapped carbon fiber racing seats, carbon fiber trim, an individually numbered plaque carrying Sergio Pininfarina’s signature as well as spoke wheels and a manually operated fabric top for emergency use.

550 Barchettas were powered by the same alloy, 48-valve, four-cam engine as fitted to the Berlinetta that could take the open car to a top speed of 185 mph. When introduced, the limited production was immediately sold to an elite group of Ferrari’s most loyal customers.

Auction Sales History

2001 Ferrari 550 Barchetta Prototype ZFFZR52A210123074 – did not sell for $500,000. It is a rare opportunity to own an ex-works’ car that was built exclusively for display and celebration. Ferrari Barchetta Pininfarina s/n 123074, is just such a car, having the honor of representing the special union between Ferrari and Pininfarina at the IAA / Frankfurt Motor Show in 2001. It has been cared for by Ferrari experts in California and has led a very charmed life. All regular service has been maintained and the car is in superb condition. Auction Source: ‘Rolling Sculpture’ 2015 NYC by Keno Brothers

2001 Ferrari 550 Barchetta Pininfarina ZFFZR52A110124300 – sold for $726,000. Finished in the rarely seen combination of silver with black upholstery, this 550 Barchetta was purchased new by an Ohio-based enthusiast. The owner barely used the car; and when serviced by the well-known Symbolic Motorcars in September 2004, the odometer still displayed only 90 miles. Acquired by its second owner in July 2005, the 550 Barchetta remained well-maintained and sparingly used. Since being acquired by the consignor, this highly collectable Ferrari has continued to live a pampered life of ideal storage and minimal use. At the time of cataloging, this rare Ferrari displayed just 150 original miles and, as would be expected, presents as a new car. Auction Source: The Pebble Beach Auctions 2015 by Gooding and Company

2001 Ferrari 550 Barchetta ZFFZR52B000124202 – sold for €274,160. The car on offer, number 224 of 448, has covered only 3,500 km since it left the factory. It is as good as new, especially since it received in 2013 a comprehensive service by a large Italian specialist, “Quality Car” in Padova. On this occasion all the elements that are likely to age, such as tires, belts, and various fillings were replaced. The car is equipped with its original accessories, its tool kit, seat covers, steering wheel cover, and drives perfectly. Auction Source: Rétromobile 2015 by Artcurial Motorcars

2001 Ferrari 550 Barchetta Pininfarina ZFFZR52B000124269 – sold for €151,200. This rare 550 Barchetta is the 291st example of only 448 cars produced, and it benefits from the care of just one owner during its life. Displaying only approximately 1,800 kilometres, chassis number 124269 is accompanied by all books and tools, and it has been freshly serviced by Rossocorsa in Milan in preparation for its current availability. It is a highly collectible piece of the modern Maranello road car lineage. With only one original owner and minimal mileage since new, this Ferrari 550 Barchetta would make a wonderful counterpoint to any collection of classic Ferrari spiders or modern coupés. Auction Source: 2013 Villa d’Erba Auction by RM
