1937 BMW 328 Wendler Coupé

In June of 1937 Hans Kepler ordered a bare chassis from BMW to be bodied into the Stromlinien Coupé by Wendler. It was untypical of the usual attractive coachwork Wendler adorned the chassis with.

The car was built as prototype based on the aerodynamic principles of Paul Jaray. The final shape was drawn by Baron Reinhard Koenig-Fachsenfeld and by Helmut Schwandner a Wendler to include cut-outs on the front end for the radiator. The design was highly successful and achieved a drag coefficient of 0.38 cd for a top speed of 175 kph.

The unusual Wendler Stromlinien Coupé was last seen at the 2009 Villa d’Erba in a special display of German aerodynamic prototypes.
