White Wins First Vintage Racecar Trophy

Oliver White took victory in the opening round of the 2013 Champion of Brands Formula Ford 1600 series at England’s Brands Hatch circuit in early June. Driving a Van Diemen, White qualified on pole position and duly led from start to finish to complete a perfect weekend.

The Champion of Brands format embraces Formula Ford 1600 cars of all ages, and attracts strong grids for all of its races. The 2013 season has four rounds—three of them held on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit. White’s victory not only earned him the title of Champion, which will require him to carry #1 on his car for the next round, but also earned him the inaugural Vintage Racecar Trophy.

This award was presented to the race by VR’s European Editor, Mike Jiggle. White said, “I am very happy to have scored my first Champion of Brands victory, and I am also thrilled to be the first winner of a trophy supported by Vintage Racecar magazine.”

Klaus-Dieter Hackel, who travelled to Brands Hatch from Germany to compete, and Mike Gardner were class winners in older Van Diemen cars.

The remaining Champion of Brands events will be held on July 27, August 10 and August 25.
