One of the highlights of McLaren’s 60th anniversary at the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed was the unveiling of the Solus GT, a limited-run hypercar that takes inspiration from a futuristic concept featured in the Gran Turismo SPORT video game. The Solus GT stands out as a truly unique beast, demonstrated by its impressive climb up the FOS hill.
The Solus GT roars up the hill with its V10 engine screaming all throughout the way. With hints of Formula One technology, this single-seater harks back to the V10 era of the sport. McLaren deserves recognition for embracing the V10 engine in an era dominated by hybrids and electric vehicles, as naturally aspirated engines with high cylinder counts become increasingly scarce.
The Solus GT is powered by a naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 engine that revs in excess of 10,000rpm and is mated to a bespoke seven-speed sequential transmission. The engine produces 840PS and 650Nm of torque and with the whole car weighing less than 1,000kg, performance is simply incredible, targeting 0-100km/h in 2.5 seconds and a top speed of over 200mph.
Driven by Marvin Kirchhofer the McLaren Solus GT with its screaming V10 wins the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed Timed Shootout with a winning times of winning time of 45.34 seconds.
