Back in 2018, Ferrari surprised the world when it unveiled the 488 Pista Spider at the Pebble Beach Concours D’elegance event in California in August of that year. The Spider is the convertible counterpart of the 488 Pista coupe and features a removable hardtop, some argue it functions more like a targa top vehicle. Ferrari also announced that the new 488 Pista Spider would mark the 50th convertible model in the company’s history.
In terms of performance, the Spider mirrors the coupe, sharing the same twin-turbocharged 3.9L V8 engine. Despite a 100kg weight penalty due to the electronically-mechanized retractable roof and its components, the Spider achieves identical performance as the coupe, with a 0-100 km/h time of 2.85 seconds and a top speed of 340 km/h with the top up.
Apart from the roof, the Spider visually distinguishes itself from the coupe with a range of unique aerodynamic enhancements, necessary changes to ensure the Spider remains competitive with its fixed-top variant on the racetrack. The Spider also features its own special livery.
AutoTopNL, a Dutch YouTube channel, recently got their hands on a Ferrari 488 Pista Spider and gave us a glimpse of what it can do when pushed to the limits on the German Autobahn. Be sure to turn up the volume so you can enjoy the raw sound of Ferrari’s most powerful V8 ever!
