At MidAmerica’s inaugural motorcycle auction at the Del Mar Concours “The Celebration of the Motorcycle,” on September 13-14, 2013, five rare vintage showpieces took top billing and proved to be the priciest souvenirs at the Fairgrounds.
Top lot of the sale was a 1916 Harley-Davidson Board Track Racer, which sold for $47,500. This 1000-cc Harley was a very well preserved older restoration that depicts a period-correct Harley-Davidson Board Track Racer of an era that is long gone. Other top lots included: a 1929 Indian Scout 101 selling for $35,000; a 1947 Indian Roadmaster going for $30,000; a 1924 Indian Scout V-Twin hammering for $27,750; and a 1927 AJS V-Twin going for $25,250.
“As so many experienced riders and collectors know, these motorcycles exhibit all the desirable qualities of mechanical innovation, unique beauty and historical relevance ever presented by the automotive world,” noted MidAmerica’s spokesperson, Ron Christenson.
“We were especially honored to be a part of this world-class celebration.”
This year, The Celebration of the Motorcycle, supported the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation with a special Breathe-Easy Ride-In and Custom Bike Show with Broc Glover, and the Motorcycle Concours where 150 historically significant, classic and antique motorcycles were showcased, judged and enjoyed.
