Tiff Needell from the (really old) Top Gear reviews the awesome McLaren F1. Tiff gets behind the scenes at McLaren’s headquarters, seeing first hand how the McLaren is made. You get to hear about how the naturally aspirated 6.1-litre, V12 BMW powerplant that came in under-weight and over in power, as well as the fact that gold lines the engine bay because it is the best heat reflector and the fact that the single seat design was Gordon Murray’s idea from when he was a young guy first entering the car business.
Ultimately, the test drive is what matters. For those who can’t wait, I’d suggest jumping to 5:28 in the video. You will understand why the McLaren was the best car ever when Tiff floors it.
