A Little GR Yaris for Drivers
The Toyota GR Yaris is a special new car. Yes, the Yaris doesn’t typically inspire drivers, but this new model is built for those rally races, and this homologated vehicle is something special and not seen much these days. Carfection had the chance to get behind the wheel of the little car and do a video review of the car. It’s an impressive machine, and one worth taking note of.
The car features all-wheel-drive, and the most powerful three-cylinder engine in a production car today. The 1.6-liter turbocharged three-pot engine makes 257 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque. The car has excellent suspension with wishbones in the rear of the car, which makes this vehicle handle better than most other vehicles its size. Toyota also beefed up the chassis with more weld points and structural adhesives to make this a stiff little bugger.
The whole car weighs just 1,280 kg. This is thanks to plenty of lightweight materials, including aluminum and carbon fiber, used throughout the vehicle. 0-60 mph comes in 5.2 seconds and the top speed is 143 mph. That’s not earth-shattering speed, but then this car costs less than 30,000 English pounds.
Catchpole said the car is simply fun to drive. He did say the interior isn’t very luxurious at all, but it’s still pleasant, and the gearshift and is good as is the throttle response. To see his whole review, check it out below.
