This highly sought-after 2006 Mercedes-Benz SLR ‘McLaren Edition’ will be offered at Bonhams’ Scottsdale Auction on January 25, 2025, with an estimated value of up to $825,000. This unique SLR is one of just 25 bespoke units produced through McLaren Special Operations (MSO), making it a rare and collectible example of this high-performance supercar.
The SLR features a 5,439cc DOHC supercharged V8 engine, delivering 617bhp at 6,500rpm, a 5-speed AMG Speedshift R transmission, and a 4-wheel independent suspension. Carbon-ceramic disc brakes offer enhanced stopping power, and the car’s performance is further boosted by MSO’s handling pack, steering, and damper upgrades.
Initially completed in 2006, the car underwent a remarkable transformation in 2011 when it was returned to the factory for the McLaren Edition treatment. This included the addition of a complete MSO body kit, which featured a new front bumper, redesigned sill panels, and a revised rear airbrake that improved aerodynamics by reducing drag by 2.5%.
The transformation also included a set of black chrome 722S wheels and a lightweight titanium exhaust system that saved 30kg. The interior was refinished in striking Kilo Grey with Oxblood leather, adding to the car’s bespoke appeal.
With only 25 McLaren Edition SLRs ever produced, each uniquely tailored, this example is one of the most exclusive and refined versions of the Mercedes-Benz SLR. MSO’s transformation enhanced its visual appeal and elevated its performance, making it a true collector’s item. The limited use since its overhaul ensures that this SLR remains in superb condition, ready to be part of any serious collector’s garage.
