Developed alongside Chip Ganassi Racing and Multimatic’s competition cars, the second generation road-going Ford GT is an FIA LM GTE-class endurance racer tailored for public roads. Built by Multimatic at a specialized low-volume facility in Markham, Ontario, the first production model rolled off in December 2016, with Ford executives on hand to commemorate the milestone.
While all examples of the Ford GT are exceptional, Ford introduced a series of Heritage Edition models to honor iconic moments in GT40 history. These special editions featured liveries inspired by legendary vehicles such as the #1 Le Mans-winning MkIV, the John Wyer Gulf Racing MkII, and the Alan Mann Racing AM GT-1.
For the 2021 model year, Ford commemorated its groundbreaking first 24-hour race win at the 1968 Daytona Continental, driven by Ken Miles and Lloyd Ruby. The selected livery featured a dramatic combination of white, matte black, and red, paying homage to the car’s bold and unforgettable design. Ford built just 50 units of the 2021-2022 GT Heritage Edition, and one is set to be auctioned at Bonhams’ Scottsdale event on January 25. This example is a virtually new 2021 Ford GT Heritage Edition with just 10 miles on the odometer.
Originally delivered to Canada, it proudly showcases the Daytona-inspired livery, listed as a $41,700 option on the accompanying window sticker. Its Frozen White paint is accented by exposed black carbon details on the front wings and decklid, with Race Red highlights adorning the bumper, roof, and body sides. Additional elements include 20-inch carbon wheels with red accents, black brake calipers with red highlights, and a fitted indoor car cover, completing this extraordinary tribute to Ford’s racing heritage.
The GT’s foundation is a competition-grade carbon fiber monocoque structure complemented by aluminum subframes and a seamless steel roll cage integrated into the roof. Its hydraulically adjustable pushrod suspension is straight out of motorsport, while the car’s striking butterfly doors and teardrop-shaped body reflect aerodynamic precision. Additional aerodynamic features include a retractable rear wing and rear diffuser, while LED taillights and an aggressive front design complete its racing-inspired aesthetic.
Power comes from a 3.5L twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 producing 660 horsepower and 550 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch Getrag transmission. The GT can go from 0 to 60 mph in under 3.0 seconds and has a top speed of 216 mph. Brembo carbon ceramic brakes and a titanium Akrapovic exhaust system further enhance the GT’s performance, making it a true masterpiece of engineering.
