Named after the famous Monégasque racing driver Louis Chiron, the Bugatti Chiron was first revealed as the Vision Gran Turismo concept car at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, with production starting the following year.
The Chiron was designed to surpass the Veyron in every aspect, aiming to be the world’s fastest, most exclusive, and most expensive production car. Although it retained the Veyron’s 8.0-liter turbocharged W16 engine, it was extensively upgraded to produce 1,500 horsepower.
Power was delivered to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and a Haldex coupling, primarily driving the rear wheels unless additional traction was needed. Initially limited to 261 mph due to tire constraints, the Chiron could accelerate from 0-186 mph in just 13.6 seconds. Limited to 500 units by the end of production in 2022, various special editions were also released.
At their 2024 Monterey auction on August 15-17, RM Sotheby’s will offer two special edition Chirons, a 2023 Bugatti Chiron Super Sport and a 2021 Bugatti Chiron Sport Noire, both with low mileage.
2023 Bugatti Chiron Super Sport – Estimate: $3,750,000 – $4,250,000
Bugatti produced a limited run of approximately 80 Super Sport models, each capable of an astonishing 273 mph. This hypercar was a dramatic departure from its Chiron predecessors, featuring an elongated body and advanced aerodynamics optimized for high-speed stability. Unique design elements, including air curtains and a longer rear, significantly improved the car’s performance.
This particular Super Sport, delivered new in April 2023 with exceptionally low mileage (243 miles), boasts a striking two-tone exterior and a luxurious Havana leather interior. Its pristine condition and exclusive specifications make it a highly coveted collector’s item.

2021 Bugatti Chiron Sport Noire– Estimate: $3,300,000 – $3,800,000
This Bugatti Chiron Sport Noire, with only 418 miles on the odometer, is an exceptionally rare and visually striking example of automotive artistry. Produced as part of a limited 20-car run, the Noire distinguishes itself with a dramatic, almost sinister aesthetic.
Its exterior is cloaked in matte carbon fiber, punctuated by Nocturne black accents that adorn the mirrors, wheels, brake calipers, and the iconic horseshoe grille. Inside, the dark theme continues with a cabin upholstered in Beluga Black leather and accented with black carbon fiber.
