50 Fastest Accelerating Cars from 0-60 mph

Fastest Accelerating Cars from 0-60 mph Ever Produced

Our list of fastest cars by acceleration has lots of familiar supercar faces (check our ranking of supercars by top speed and you will quickly know what we mean). As expected, there’s a smattering of Ferrari, Koenigsegg, Bugatti, McLaren and Pagani cars in the list of the cars with the fastest 0-60 times. Not too surprising. What is surprising is the number of the fastest accelerating cars that are made by the little guys, the likes of Ariel, Caparo, Radical and even the all-electric crew at Tesla with their Ludicrous mode Model S.

That’s the beauty of the fast 0 to 60 mph and quarter mile times, it is more about technology than brute force. While massive top speed can be achieved with a huge engine and little else, the quickest car 0-60 needs to be able to put the power down quickly and maximize traction immediately. That’s hard.

Engineers are constantly working on new high-performance technology, tire compounds, light-weight materials and advanced electronics to help cars accelerate even faster than their predecessors. Unlike top speed, creating the fastest 0-60 and quarter mile car in the world is as much about the rapid evolution of technology as it is the engine performance.

Don’t forget to check out the full list of cars with a top speed of 200mph, cars with highest power to weight ratios or more as well as our other supercar lists.

Note – Fastest car in the world 0-60 mph data: The times on this list may not be perfect. In some cases we got data from magazines and websites that do extensive testing, in other cases we took the manufacturers word and rarely we looked up forums and quarter mile times other’s achieved.

1. 1994 Ford SVT Boss Mustang 10.0L Concept

0-60 mph time: 1.9 sec | 1/4 mile time: 10.5 sec

In 1994 SVT John Coletti built an absurd Mustang. The car was christened the BOSS. It had an engine based on the super limited BOSS 429 of 1969-1970 fame. Displacing a whopping 598 cubic inches the BOSS packed 850 hp and 794 ft-lbs of torque. It was all sent to a nine-inch rear diff with 35-spline axles via a custom built C6 automatic transmission. 2010 Porsche 918 Spyder4. 2013 Porsche 918 Spyder

0-60 mph time: 2.3 sec | 1/4 mile time: 9.9 sec

Put the Porsche 918 Spyder in “Race Hybrid” mode for maximum performance and the car accelerates like it is on a slingshot. The 918s combustion engine is chiefly used under high load with the electric motors providing additional support in the form of boosting. My guess is that repeated acceleration runs would need the electric power assist to rocket the car to the quarter mile in under 10 seconds. Learn about the Porsche 918 Spyder.

2010 Bugatti 16/4 Veyron Super Sport

5. 2010 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport

0-60 mph time: 2.4 sec | 1/4 mile time: 9.6 sec

With four small turbochargers added it produces up to 1000 bhp. In 2006 when it was release, the Bugatti Veyron was the fastest accelerating (0-60 in 2.48 seconds), most consuming (5.82 mpg), most expensive (1,440,800 USD) and quickest (253 mph) production car available. 9. 2014 Mansory Vivere

0-60 mph time: 2.48 sec | 1/4 mile time: 10.7 sec

It is weird to give Mansory credit here, but technically they’re a manufacturer so the rules say that’s ok. Mansory basically that a Bugatti Veyron 16.4 and modified it. The Vivere received a comprehensive facelift at the front, consisting of modified wings, a shortened bonnet and a striking front apron. Luckily they left the Quad Turbocharged W16 engine alone so power is the same as the “standard” Veyron at 1000+ hp. Learn about the 2014 Mansory Vivere.

It also features a very high 13.5:1 compression ratio and a high specific output equal to 128 CV per litre. The engine is coupled with a 120 Kw (163 CV) electric motor, giving it a combined power output of 963 CV.

The high torque levels available at low revs from the electric motor allowed the engineers to optimise the internal combustion engine’s performance at higher revs, thus providing a constant supply of exceptional power throughout the rev range. Total torque generated is in excess of 900 Nm. Learn about the 2014 Ferrari LaFerrari.

23. 1994 Dauer 962 Le Mans

0-60 mph time: 2.5 sec | 1/4 mile time: 9.7 sec

Of the companies that have produced a 962 road car, the most successful has been Dauer (it is all Porsche components). Dauer partnered with Porsche to manufacture a contender for the 1994 24 Hours of LeMans (the rules stipulated that a single road-going version of the car had to manufactured for homologation). At the 24 hour race, Dauer showed up with both a road version and race version of the Porsches 962 (a design which had already won Le Mans six times). After winning the race, the FIA declared it would be creating rules to make sure the 962 wouldn’t be back in 1995. However, with a Le Mans win under their belt, and with support from Porsche, Dauer continued to build their road-going 962. Learn about the 1994 Dauer 962 Le Mans.
