Another rare sight on UK circuits – the Plymouth Barracuda driven by Duncan Pittaway. A rare sight in Britain – the Bill Thomas Cheetah of Ian Burford failed in qualifying…but it made a wonderful sight and sound. Barry Cannell (Cooper Bristol T24-25) leads the Aston Martin DB2 of Reid and Snowdon through the Esses. Class of the field in the GT & Sports Car Cup was BTCC driver Rory Butcher in William Paul’s Jaguar E…but he ran out of fuel in the 90 minute race. Could this rapid Speedwell Austin A30 be driven by a lady…indeed so – Miss Sautter. David Cook’s brightly coloured Alfa Romeo 8C Monza. Gavin Watson throws his Alfa Giulietta Ti around with enthusiasm in the Alfa only race. Graham Goodwin’s Delahaye 135CS leads a Riley and Talbot 105 through the chicane. Grant Williams drove the ex-Coombs Jaguar Mk1 with great gusto. It was lovely to see the old warhorse from Brooklands – the Bentley Barnato Hassan Special – out in the hands ofDavid Ayre. Karl Jones heads out onto the pit straight on full throttle on his Jaguar D Type. Lead battle for the Jack Sears Trophy touring cars comprised a lone Mustang versus a bevy of Lotus Cortina. Dave Coyne steered the big Ford to victory. Look what we’ve got in our truck – a Daytona Shelby Cobra evocation and a big Healey. Mark Holme and Jeremy Welch profited from the late retirements of the leading Lola Mk1 and Jaguar E that were the class of the GT & Sports car Cup. Their Austin Healey 3000 finished 50 seconds ahead-2. Noisiest car at the whole event was this genuine ex-Alan Mann Lotus Cortina Mk 2 that had been driven by Graham Hill, Frank Gardner, Jacky Ickx and Paul Hawkins. Its F2 Cosworth FVA motor sounded fabulous. Poleman for the GT & Sports car Cup race was Ben Adams Lola MK1. Although he ran out of fuel with ten laps to go he had the consolation of winning the Stirling Moss Trophy later on (1)-2. Quickest car in the pre-63 GT race was this stunning roadster E Type driven by James Cottingham. Rock guitarist Chris Rea has always been a motor sport fan and he raced his Morris Minor in Police car colours. Start of the pre-63 GT race won by the number 33 Jaguar E Type of Jon Minshaw and Rory Butcher-2. That’s no way to treat a cat. The Butterfield boys finished 5th in the Jack Sears Trophy pre-66 touring car race. The Birch – Bradley Lotus 15 was very quick but retired early on. The Clark-Mutch Cooper Bobtail leads Tiff Needell’s Lister and the Lotus Mk X-2. The ex-Moss, ex-Brooks Connaught ALSR was driven by Paul Griffin. The lovely AC Cobra Daytona was an evocation of the Tour De France car of Simon & Dupeyron. David Smithies won this race by a handsome margin. The Reid-Snowdon Astom Martin DB 2 is chased by Steve Brooks in his D Type Jaguar. The Sleep and Wykeham Shelby Mustang 350GT came home a strong third in the GT & Sports Car Cup. Three Jaguars and two Austins head out into the fast back stretch of Thruxton circuit. Two Jaguar D Types, a Connaught ASLR and Frazer Nash LM Rep head into the first corner as one.No Subscription?
