From Mexico With Speed
The VUHL 05RR track car with no windshield and no roof will come to the U.S. now that the company has a new model. Developed in the U.K. with parts sourced from Canada, the 05RR is a serious force to be reckoned with.
It has a Ford-sourced 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that makes 400 hp and 396 lb-ft of torque. That engine is mated to a sequential gearbox with six gears. It can do a 0-60 mph sprint in as little as 2.7 seconds, has a top speed of 158 mph, and has a better power-to-weight ratio than the Bugatti Veyron. That favorable power-to-weight ratio is due to the fact that it weighs less than 1,500 lbs.
The original VUHL 05 has been out for a few years. The new 05RR is an evolutionary upgrade and a darn good one at that. It’s 143 pounds lighter, 115 hp and 73 lb-ft of torque more powerful, and available globally. The weight improvements came through the use of a lightened flywheel, race clutch, carbon fiber wheels, and the new gearbox.
The car isn’t just lightweight. It is a downforce-producing monster capable of creating up to 1.8g of lateral acceleration. The body design paired with the huge rear wing creates all that downforce. The 05RR also received a new suspension setup and the option of slick tires for even more grip on the racetrack.
The new VUHL will be available in the U.S. and other areas around the world. However, the company has not released the price or the locations where you’ll be able to purchase the new car. Those details will likely come at a later date.
