Paying Homage to the Racecars of the Mid-20th Century
The Ferrari F 12berlinetta is a fantastic car, but Touring Superleggera has taken it and turned it into a truly interesting machine. The company has designed some truly wonderful cars in the past from the Alfa Romeo 8C Disco Volante to the Touring Sciadipersia that was based on the Maserati GranTurismo, but this might be my favorite car yet.
The Aero 3 features an aerodynamic design that follows the principles of Carlo Felice Bianchi Anderloni, according to Car Buzz. the idea behind this is that “weight is the enemy, air resistance the obstacle.”
The car will debut at the Salon Prive Concourse d’Elegance at Blenheim Palace in the UK this week. The curvaceous bodywork is made mostly of carbon fiber. There are still traces of the Ferrari F12 underneath, but the company has managed to really transform the car from its previous state into a truly different-looking vehicle.
The car weighs just 3,619 pounds. The car is finished in Stratosphere Red, which pays homage to the 1938 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 B LM Coupe Berlinetta Aerodinamica racing number 18 that raced at LeMans. Under that svelt red exterior, the car features the Ferrari’s chassis and running gear. This includes the 6.2-liter V12 that makes 730 hp and 509 lb-ft of torque. That power is sent to the rear wheels via a 7-speed sequential gearbox. The company will make only 15 of the cars.
