It Looks Like a Winner
The company Saleen wants to make a big splash in racing. The car Saleen wants to do it with is the new Saleen GT4 Concept Race Car. The car is based on the Saleen S1, which is not yet on sale. The GT4 Concept Race Car is fitted with a turbocharged 2.2-liter four-cylinder. That engine punches out 450 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. That’s plenty to make this car a serious contender.
As you might expect of a racing car, the Saleen has carbon-fiber bodywork to help keep weight down. That body is full of aerodynamic modifications. There’s a large rear wing, a good front splitter, and a rear diffuser. There’s also air louvers and a set of racing wheels with race tires. The finished product will get centerlocking wheels.
The car was showcased at an event in Las Vegas. It will get some additional tweaks before it makes its racing debut, but the car is almost totally completed at this point, according to Carscoops.
“We developed the Saleen 1 to be fully capable on the track and easily adapt to racing applications,” company founder and chief executive Steve Saleen said. “Our company was founded on racing DNA and the track is where we prove our reputation. We look forward to completing the homologation process with SRO and seeing these cars compete at GT4 events around the world.”
Saleen will have to homologate the Saleen GT4. Once it does that these cars will go on sale for $225,000. They will be eligible to compete in racing series in America, Europe, and Asia.
