A Modern Z Car Coming Soon?
The Nissan Z Proto you see here is the next Z sports coupe. The Nissan 370Z that is currently on sale has been out for far too long and it’s best days are behind it. The car gets outpaced by all the competition. This new Z Proto (prototype) is about 98 percent production-ready, according to Roadshow.
The car should debut next year and then hit showroom floors in 2022. The Z Proto is a Z car through and through. It’s slightly longer, wider, and lower than the current 370Z. The engine will be a twin-turbo V6, though the displacement is not yet known. The best part? That engine will be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.
Looking at the Z Proto, it’s clear not only that it’s a Nissan but that’s its a Z car. The vehicle has the classic proportions and the Z car shape. The platform underpinning the car is not night and day different from the current 370Z. It’s updated for sure, and stiffer and stronger than ever before, but not wildly different.
The engine is expected to be a 3.0-liter affair, which is down from the 3.7-liter V6 in the current car. This could be the same engine that’s in the Infiniti Q60 Coupe. It would also align the car with its expected 400Z name (400 hp). It will be interesting to see what happens with this car in the coming years.
