The successful twenty-year collaboration between Automobili Lamborghini and the Italian “Polizia di Stato” continues, after having the original Lamborghini Gallardo 5.0 in Polizia livery, later an additional Gallardo LP560-4 was seen driving on the Italian highways until both got replaced by the new V10, the Huracan LP610-4, keep in mind all of these supercars amazed an impressive number of miles before being retired, but now the Italian State Police received the latest and bravest from Sant’Agata.
This time, the Sant’Agata Bolognese carmaker has delivered an impressive Urus Performante to the Italian Highway Police, which will enter into service in 2024, imagine seeing this one in your rearview mirror … no need to try and outrun this Raging Bull, the Urus Performante comes with about 660 hp and a massive 627 lb ft of torque, with a top speed of 190 mph you’ll have to be in a serious supercar to get away from this Polizia.
The ceremony took place in Rome today, Tuesday December 12, in Piazza del Viminale, outside the Ministry of the Interior headquarters. Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, handed over the keys to the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, in the presence of Head of Police, Vittorio Pisani.
The collaboration between Automobili Lamborghini and the Italian State Police started in 2004, and the Urus Performante is the sixth model to enter into the Highway Police fleet. The Super SUV joins the Huracán LP610-4, and will be used for special services including the urgent medical transport of organs and plasma.
“It is with great pleasure that we are continuing our twenty-year cooperation with the Italian State Police,” commented Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini. “Knowing that our cars are used for public duties and, above all, for crucial operations to save human lives, can only make me and the whole company proud. These initiatives, which bring us great satisfaction, demonstrate our innate close ties with Italy.”
The Urus Performante was fitted out by Lamborghini technicians at Sant’Agata Bolognese, starting from the exterior, following police specifications. The livery was designed by Lamborghini Centro Stile and combines the classic blue color of the Italian State Police and white, with tricolor bands on the sills and seat belt. The police logos have been applied to the doors in reflective film, while a light bar with 360° blue LED lights has been installed on the roof, together with a two-tone electric siren.
The cockpit has been customized with various elements that are indispensable for the public security service, including an armored weapon box; a flip-down message display; and a special compartment in the trunk for stowing service equipment and a defibrillator for first aid response. Most importantly, a portable fridge for the transportation of organs is fitted, including a display and data logger for the continuous monitoring of the internal temperature.
The Urus Performante is equipped with a twin-turbo V8 engine delivering 666 CV of power and 850 Nm of torque at engine speeds from 2,300 to 4,500 rpm, guaranteeing 0 to 100 km/h (ca. 60 mph) acceleration in just 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 306 km/h (ca. 190 mph). A performance which, combined with best-in-class driving dynamics, allowed the best time to be set for a production SUV on the renowned Pikes Peak Hillclimb in 2022 (10:32.064).
