The New BMW M5 Goes Hybrid

BMW has unveiled the latest iteration of its iconic M5 performance sedan, and for the first time ever, it’s a plug-in hybrid.

The new M5 packs a 4.4L twin-turbo V8 engine paired with an electric motor. This combination produces a staggering 727 horsepower and 1,000 Nm of torque, putting it firmly in supercar territory.

The new M5 offers over 40 miles of electric range, thanks to its 18.6 kWh battery, enhancing its usability for short journeys and city driving. The design features wider bodywork, real air intakes, and a sleek, aggressive look, both inside and out. Interior highlights include Marino leather seats, M-specific displays, and sporty accents.

However, a significant downside to the hybrid setup is the added weight. The battery pack pushes the M5’s weight to a hefty 2.4 tons, making it considerably heavier than its predecessor. This translates to a 0-62 mph time of 3.5 seconds, slightly slower than the previous generation.

On the bright side, the new M5 starts at a price of £102,000, only £2,000 more than the outgoing model.
