The Elegance at Hershey (2013) – Information

In its relatively short two-year history, The Elegance at Hershey has gained a growing  reputation as one of the more unique vintage and antique car events in the country, bringing together some of the world’s finest collector cars to “The Sweetest Place on Earth,” all in the name of some very deserving charities.

“The Elegance at Hershey, this year June 14-16 at the historic Hotel Hershey, features, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for many to see exquisite automobile art in the unique setting of the formal gardens at The Hotel Hershey,” explains Car Selection Committee Chairman Mark Lizewskie, Executive Director of the AACA Museum and a member of The Elegance at Hershey board.

With a show field limited to no more than 60 of “the crème de la crème” of the automobile world, the Elegance strives to present some of the finest cars from every era. For example, attendees will have an opportunity to see a 1928 Gardner 85 Sports Roadster. One of an estimated 800 produced, the car coming to The Elegance is believed to be the only surviving example.

Also on display will be a rare 1933 Duesenberg SJ Beverly Sedan, a remarkable and authentic example of an enclosed Duesenberg with only five enclosed SJs ever made. The car has retained its original body and engine, and its entire history is documented.

Later model aficionados will not be disappointed, as The Elegance displays a 1959 Ferrari Cabriolet by Pininfarina. One of only 40 built, the car was originally owned by Georges Filipinetti, of Geneva, Switzerland, founder of Scuderia Filipinetti, the renowned racing team of the 1960s.

The Sunday June 16 concours is preceded by two days of vintage car hill climb competition. On Friday and Saturday June 14 and 15, more than 40 vintage racecars will roar up the challenging Hershey Hill Climb Course in a VSCCA-sanctioned exhibition that affords spectators an opportunity to see great classic racing machines and their drivers in an intimate setting.

The Elegance at Hershey also features a special themed dinner and silent auction, Saturday June 16, in the ballroom at The Hotel Hershey.  Titled “French Curves; A Tribute to Le Mans” the celebration includes a display of cars that have competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
