Backpedaling on that 2020 Release Date
In 2017, Tesla revealed the new version of the Roadster. It was promised for a 2020 launch. Musk told Joe Rogan in a podcast interview recently that the Roadster would be delayed further to let the company focus on more important models first.
“Roadster is kind of like dessert. We gotta get the meat and potatoes and greens and stuff,” Musk said. So does that mean that after those two things are done, Tesla will focus on the Roadster launch? Umm, not really.” He went on to say that the Cybertruck would come out before the Roadster does.
The Cybertruck is set to come out in 2021. That’s if Musk doesn’t push that date out more. If the Cybertruck hits the 2021 delivery date, then that likely means the Roadster won’t come until 2022.
For a recap on what the Roadster is, it’s a sports car that can do 620 miles per charge from a 200-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack. The car will have a 250 mph top speed and do 0 to 60 mph in under two seconds. At least, that’s what Tesla has claimed it will do. This would make the vehicle one of the most impressive production cars ever made. It’s a shame that it will be delayed.
