This past weekend, the British had to choose between the FIA GT races at Silverstone and the Gumball 3000 in downtown London. Naturally, we picked the real racing which brought out an excellent field of supercars in three classes. The entirety of the weekend’s races can be streamed on the official websites, but for a closer look at the cars and the engineering behind the series, we recommend our feature gallery by James Franklin.
Unfortunately, the second round of the FIA GT1 World Championship was fraught with controversy at Silverstone. The third placed-Nissan GT-R inherited the overall win after both the leading Astons received penalties. This means Nissan’s first ever sanctioned victory in GT racing is somewhat hollow.
Last weekend also held the opening rounds of the FIA GT3 championship with several new cars for 2010 like the Gallardo LP560 GT3 which looked very fast on track. Other new entrants included the BMW Z4 GT3 and Porsche 911 GT3 R. Round 1 was won by the Callaway Competition team and their Corvette Z06R and Trackspeed Porsche debuted the 911 GT3 R to a resounding victory in the second race.
