A Dramatic Sales Drop Should Kick Audi in Gear
There’s a lot to love about the Audi R8 it’s an everyday supercar and one of the best ones out there. The vehicle is a handsome and fast machine, and it’s not selling well. In 2018, the car sold 927 units. In 2019 it sold only 574, according to CarBuzz. That’s a drop of 38 percent. As of 2022, Audi is averaging just 52 R8 sales per month.
The R8 hit the market in 2006 and received a facelift in 2015. It’s time for Audi to do something with the car. Audi has hinted at an electric replacement for the R8. We don’t think the company needs to go that far just yet, but it’s clear that the R8 needs to do something to appeal to new customers, and this likely means a new powertrain.
The vehicle still looks pretty fresh, but if Audi is going to do another refresh on this model, it might as well revamp the styling of the car, too.
Audi is likely working hard on the R8 successor, but we doubt that car will be ready in 2020 or 20201. That could mean that the company will continue to see sales slip. A revamp of the model could go a long way towards moving some of these cars before the successor arrives. It’ll be interesting to see what happens.
