Amelia Island, Florida

As has become the custom at an RM auction, there was a packed house present before the start of bidding which only enhanced the feeling that the buyers were ready for the proceedings to start without delay. Building on its earlier success with the Milhous Auction in Boca Raton, the official auction of the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance saw 92 of 106 lots change hands for $23 million in total sales. In all, six automobiles exceeded the ‘magic’ million-dollar threshold and automobilia sales were particularly strong across the board. A freshly restored 1960 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster established a new record at $990,000, while Ferraris continued to feature at RM with a 1973 Dino 246 GTS selling at $363,000, a 1972 Daytona 365 GTB/4 Spyder fetching $1,210,000 and a unique covered headlight 1961 250 GT Series II Cabriolet changing hands at $770,000.
