MGs with History Ñ Lined up on Delaware Street are the five original Put-in-Bay race cars that attended the 2010 Put-in-Bay Road Races Reunion. Interestingly they are all MGs, two TDs and a trio of TCs, with one of the TDs (far right) still driven by its original owner, Art Brow. Photo: Stu Kerr

Put-in-Bay Race (2010) – Recap

The second annual Put-In-Bay Road Races Reunion took place June 28-30 on Ohio’s South Bass Island. The island, home to road racing on its public roads between 1952 and 1959 (as well as in 1963), is offshore in Lake Erie, a 30-minute ferry ride north of Catawba Island, less than an hour east of Toledo.

A special effort was made to assemble the actual cars and drivers who participated in the original races, but anyone with an interest in preserving the history of open-road sports car racing in the ’50s was welcome to attend. Among the activities offered were escorted tours of the original course, the establishment of permanent historical markers at select locations around the circuit, a car show, and much more.

Proceeds from the event went toward supporting the Put-In-Bay Road Races archives and exhibit at the Lake Erie Historical Society Museum at Put-In-Bay. For complete details please visit http://put-in-baysportscarreunion.blogspot.com
