[Book Review] Where the Writer Meets the Road

Where the Writer Meets the Road

By Sam Posey

Sam Posey created a unique career for himself in motorsports, beginning as a young driver set to make his mark, then later moving into television commentary, forming a memorable booth crew with Bobby Unser and Paul Page, all while carrying on in private as both a writer and an artist.

This book, subtitled โ€œa collection of articles, broadcast intros and profiles,โ€ looks at Samโ€™s career from his own, admittedly personal viewpoint, but nevertheless tells a compelling tale. Included are a number of articles on a variety of topics that he wrote, primarily for Road & Track, but also Sports Illustrated and others, as well as introductory briefs he penned to open F1 broadcasts and salute the honorees at the Road Racing Drivers Clubโ€™s annual Long Beach banquets.

An excellent Foreword by long-time โ€œadversaryโ€ David Hobbs opens the book on a revelatory note, and the following text readily displays Samโ€™s talents out of the cockpit. The book is laced with relevant photography at appropriate points as well as a central four-color signature of snaps from Samโ€™s life.

Itโ€™s available for US$29.95 / ยฃ19.99 from enthusiast bookstores, or direct from publisher David Bull Publishing at www.bullpublishing.com
