Mille Miglia Race: The Postwar Years
By Giorgio Nada Editore
As chronicled throughout this special issue of VRJ, the fabled history of the Mille Miglia spans over 70 years of legendary cars and drivers. Despite this formidable history, there are surprisingly few books on the race available in English. However, in 1998, Italian automotive publisher, Giorgio Nada Editore, released “Mille Miglia Race: The Postwar Years,” a richly printed book chronicling each year’s race from 1947 to 1957.
The approach of this book is both elegant and novel. The text, which highlights the events of each year’s race, is taken from period reports published in magazines such as The Motor, Motor Sport and The Autocar, by revered authors such as Denis Jenkinson. The high-quality, supporting black and white and color photos are drawn from the famed collection of Alberto Sorlini, who was the official event photographer throughout the postwar period. The combination of the two make this book a must have for fans of postwar sports racing.
