John Ketchell captures the aura of racing in the rain at night at Le Mans with this image of a Ferrari 512S.
The 1970 Le Mans 24 hours is immortalized in the the Steve McQueen film Le Mans, with much of the film’s footage taken from that race. Rain fell heavily throughout the night, and this was the first time the traditional “Le Mans start,” in which drivers ran across the track to enter their cars at the beginning, was replaced by a variant in which the drivers were already seated in their cars. It was also the race where Porsche won for the first time.
