The Newport Antique Auto Hill Climb is the third-largest annual auto gathering in the state of Indiana, located in Newport, Indiana. Each year in October, this town of under 600 residents, hosts 100,000-plus, who come to enjoy the festival atmosphere. Automobiles, trucks and motorcycles from vintage, antique and classic car eras, make timed runs from a standing start, up a steep hill to a finish line 1,800 feet away. First held in 1909, it followed the hill used by auto manufacturers to test their new products. In 1968, the Newport Lions Club was formed, and has organized the event ever since.
