New Mechanics Trust Website

The Grand Prix Mechanics Charitable Trust has launched a revamped website aimed at keeping current and former F1 mechanics in touch. Established in 1987 by three-time World Champion Sir Jackie Stewart, the trust aimed to provide support for mechanics should they be injured while working in the pit lane.

“Every time I sat behind the wheel of a Formula One car, I put my life in the hands of my mechanics,” said Sir Jackie. “I therefore have an absolute admiration for what they do. When times of hardship strike, the trust is here to help the mechanics by offering them support either financially, with medical support and guidance or with advice from our people who can identify what help is available from the government and other sources.”

As part of the trust’s development, a revamped website with a new area for those mechanics who have registered with the trust has recently launched at www.gpmechanicstrust.com. Called “The Garage,” it’s a private area where members can interact and reminisce about the good old days.

The site includes a forum for discussion of any topic, a section for photographs from their days working in the paddock and a listing of every registered mechanic, allowing members to find old friends and colleagues anywhere in the world. All mechanics past and present are encouraged to register by contacting Ann Wood, Administrator, at [email protected] or calling (44) 1896 820263.

Thanks to generous donations over the years, the trust has been able to help countless mechanics with financial and social support, but it still needs help. Contributions can now be made online at www.gpmechanicstrust.com.
