On the northern side of Bowmanville, Ontario, lies a track steeped in automobile racing heritage. Mosport International Raceway is a daunting and fast rollercoaster ride of a race track. Although the name “Mosport” comes from the conjunction of ‘‘motor’’ and ‘‘sport,’’ it’s often mispronounced ‘‘Mossport.’’ The track is 2.459-miles long (measured middle of the road), originally 28 feet wide. In 2000, it was widened to 40 feet. Tough to pull off, making it wider but not changing the layout, but Myles Brandt, the track’s executive director, did a fantastic job supervising the refurbishing.
Mosport is one of just a tiny handful of race tracks in the world which have hosted Formula One, Formula 5000, Trans-Am and stock car races. Opened in 1961, by 1967, it was a Canadian F1 venue, a race won by Sir Jack Brabham.
