The 1968 season was a year of outstanding change and innovation in Grand Prix racing. The 3-liter formula was in its third year and constructors sought new technical directions in the quest for speed and victory. In what started out as a year where Lotus dominance appeared certain, Jim Clark was killed and the other teams and drivers made Graham Hill work very hard for his second world championship. At Monza, the McLarens showed a true return to early season form.
