A Beastly 4-Door Hybrid
If you’re looking at the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe and you just can’t get yourself to buy it, don’t. Wait for the upcoming plug-in hybrid that the company’s boss Tobias Moers recently discussed. In an interview with Wheels, the executive said that the hybrid version of the car will come in 2020.
First off, the car won’t be some unimpressive hybrid. According to Motor Authority, the plug-in hybrid will likely have something like 805 hp and be a true performer. Moers didn’t disclose details in his interview with Wheels, but he did say the following about the upcoming car:
Like everybody else in the automotive industry, we have to transform ourselves. The next generation of cars are going to be performance hybrids – the GT 4-Door is the first one.
This is good news for anyone who wants a high-performance vehicle in the future from Mercedes-AMG. Moers went on to say that his company will work to combine a V8 engine with electric motors to create the hybrid. “Maybe not necessarily every segment, but we can do so – and we’re going to do so,” he told Wheels.
That’s a seriously interesting proposition. It would make sense for the engine sizes to get smaller as hybridization becomes more common, but Moers seems to think that people are still going to want V8s. We’re all for it.
