A New Addition to the Family
In a press release, Mclaren stated it will expand its Longtail (LT) family. The company discussed the addition without giving away many details at all except that it said it will reveal more information on January 16. McLaren also teased an image of the car.
The new addition is the sixth vehicle to carry the LT name. It’s also the third car to be a part of the McLaren Automotive Track25 business plan.
As Carscoops rightly pointed out, it reported on the fact that McLaren planned to unveil a 600LT Spider sometime in 2019. With that knowledge, it would seem that the upcoming car McLaren just teased will be the 600LT Spider.
I can’t get much from the photo other than the fact it will have the top exit exhaust system and a fixed wing. The 600LT Spider should come with more aggressive bodywork. It will have a longer front splitter and rear diffuser and be more aerodynamic overall.
As far as performance numbers, you can expect much of the same as the 600LT coupe. That means the car will receive a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V8 that makes 592 hp and 457 lb-ft of torque. A 0 to 60 mph run should take fewer than three seconds.
The fact that it will be the Spider model means it will likely come with a little more weight. This always happens with convertibles, but I doubt it will impact performance much.
In the case of the McLaren 570S, both the coupe and convertible hit 60 mph in the same amount of time. It’s reasonable to suggest the 600LT Coupe and Spider will have the same numbers, too.
