McLaren spent 1992 upending what people thought was possible. They shook up the supercar market by unveiling the McLaren F1. It was more powerful, faster, lighter and more extreme in every way that anything else in the history of fast cars.

The McLaren F1 was the first production car to feature a carbon-fiber monocoque chassis, center-mounted driver’s seat and even gold as engine insulation. Perhaps most of all, the McLaren F1 was known for its speed. It became the world’s fastest production car at 240.1 mph, smashing the previous record by a huge 27.8 mph.
