The Kuwait Concours d’Elegance 2015 was held February 11-14 at Marina Crescent by the Arabian Gulf in Kuwait City. After a brief hiatus, the Kuwait Concours returned in 2015 under the patronage of the His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Jabir Al-Sabah and organized by the Kuwait Historical, Vintage and Classic Cars Museum.
This year’s Concours saw a field of approximately 100 classic cars from the early stages of the automotive industry through the bespoke cars of the mid-1970s as the focal point of the show.Notable entrants at the 2015 Kuwait Concours included the 1935 Bugatti Type 57 Aerolithe Electron Coupe; 1933 Invicta S-type 4.5 Litre Low Chassis; 1968 Bizzarrini 5300 SI Spider Targa; 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4; 1960 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider; 1953 Ferrari 625 TF Vignale Spider; 1971 Lamborghini Miura P400 S; 1970 Lancia Stratos HF Zero and the wonderful 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe.
The Kuwait Concours d’Elegance is judged in the Italian tradition, with a selection of guest judges that were nearly as impressive as the cars being evaluated, headed by Chief Judge Leonardo Fioravanti, designer of the Ferrari Daytona, 288 GTO, 308 GTB and F40, among others. Other notable judges included Shiro Nakamura, Chief Creative Officer of Nissan; Marek Reichman, Director of Design for Aston Martin; Dr. Ulrich Bez, CEO of Aston Martin; Horst Bruning, president of FIVA; Sandra Button, Executive Director of Pebble Beach Concours dโElegance; and Andrea Zagato, current head of Coachwork Zagato.
Best of show at the Kuwait Concours d’Elegance 2015 was awarded to the 1965 Lamborghini 350 GTS Spider. Bodied by Carrozzeria Touring, this prototype model made its debut on the Lamborghini stand at the 1965 Turin Auto Show. Other notable winners included the 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 (Best European Car) and 1958 Austin-Healey 100-6 “Goldie” (Best Restored Car).
