Company Profile – JD Classics

JD Classics

Maldon, Essex, rurally situated on the Blackwater estuary is home to JD Classics, a company specializing in recreating and refining the style, character and pedigree of some of the world’s most celebrated period vehicles, both on and off track.  Since the 1980’s the company has grown from an enthusiastic hobby into an extensive enterprise restoring, refining and exporting luxury vehicles worldwide, either mint originals or complete rebuilds. Every project, whether it be a routine service or a Concours restoration, is subject to JD’s unique craftsmanship, technical skill and acute attention to detail.  Period references are used to ensure vehicles are as exact as the day they left the original works. This expertise has been rewarded in recent years with many accolades including winning at the Pebble Beach Concours D’Elegance, in 2009, with an SS 100 3.5 liter.

The facility in Maldon is a “one-stop-shop” for full restorative services staffed by a talented team of 35 specialists. So vehicles need never leave the site before completion, ensuring quality control to a standard very few engineers both in the UK and worldwide can match. Consequently, technical decisions can be made easier and quicker, with the minimum of disruption to the project schedule. Such collaborative working is one of the main reasons they are able to introduce, so effectively, unique innovations and enhancements to classic cars.

Over the past couple of years, JD Classics have introduced “Breakfast at JD’s” events, inviting all classic car enthusiasts to go along and have a look through the workshops, preparation department, finishing area and sales rooms to get an insight to what the company does and have achieved.  These meetings are held three or four times a year and often include celebrity personalities, such as Sir Stirling Moss, Win Percy and Norman Dewis.  Recently, JD Classics have been bestowed the honor of preparing and supplying support to three cars from the JDHT (Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust).

The cars are currently being prepared to take part in this year’s Mille Miglia. JD Classics will provide support crews for them over the gruelling 1000 mile circuit. JD Classic`s founder and owner, Derek Hood, enthuses, “To be asked to participate and provide support for three such historically steeped cars is truly an honor for all involved at JD Classics. We look forward to working alongside the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust in providing this support for these first class classic race cars throughout this year’s Mille Miglia.”  With this in mind he has this invitation to prospective customers, “Thoroughbred vehicles deserve the highest standards. If you insist on feeling the same way about your luxury marques, let’s talk.”
