In the blue corner, the McLaren 720S. Not the newest, but still a really appreciably fast supercar from McLaren. It brings a twin-turbocharged, 4.0 liter V8 to the ring, with 710 HP and 568 lbs-ft of torque.
In the red corner, the Ferrari 488 Pista. A super-special version of the 488 GTB designed to devour tracks. It brings a twin-turbocharge, 3.9 liter V8 to the ring, with, amazingly, 710 HP and 568 lbs-ft of torque.
As EVO tested in their recent video, this should be a good challenge!
It should be noted, and they do state it quite early on, that the Ferrari 488 Pista runs on Pirelli Trofeo R compound track tires. The McLaren 720S they take around Anglesey Circuit in Wales, however, is on Pirelli P Zero Corsa’s, which are road going tires… just.
They are still really fast tires, but not the same as Trofeo R’s.
In the end, the Ferrari 488 Pista, from a previous run, recorded a best lap of 1:10.8. The McLaren 720S sneaks in at 1:11.5. With the only major difference between the two cars being the tires used, one does wonder, as do EVO, what could the 720S if given the proper boots to romp around the track on….
