The Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) have announced the Brickyard Vintage Racing Invitational to be held June 6-8 on the infield road course of the famed Speedway in the Hoosier capital. Some 500 cars are expected to compete in races on the road course and make demonstration runs around the full length of the 2.5-mile oval track.
The races will showcase a wide variety of cars including competitors from past Indianapolis 500s, Formula One, Trans-Am, Grand-Am and NASCAR in a dozen different classes. A special class will also feature racecars with Indianapolis 500 backgrounds.
“Indianapolis Motor Speedway fans appreciate and enjoy the history of racing,” said IMS president J. Douglas Boles, “and welcoming this event to IMS is the perfect way to celebrate racing history with cars that have competed in all different classes and many different venues over the last 100 years.”
The full schedule for the Brickyard Vintage Racing Invitational will be announced at a later date, but activity will commence with a practice day on Thursday, June 5, with free admission for everyone. Racing throughout the weekend will begin on June 6. For complete information or to purchase tickets, please visit www.ims.co/tickets or call (800) 822 INDY (4639).
