Gurney qualified the BRM P48 7th on the grid for the 1960 French Grand Prix at Reims, but retired after 17 laps when the engine failed. Gurney would eventually retire from a total of 6 races out of the 7 championship rounds he competed in that year, with his only result being a 10th place finish in the British Grand Prix.
