The July 27-28-29 weekend was big deal at Silverstone where the 3rd annual Classic races were held. The numbers involved were impressive: 41,000 spectators, 18 race classes, 600 cars and 40+ club corrals.
A main reason to visit Silverstone was the collection of 60 to 70 Group C/GTP cars that were assembled together for the entire weekend. Almost all of Jaguar’s Group C contenders were present, as well as a huge number of 962s. Porsche was well supported in other areas by having a race class for modern cars and a Bonham’s auction devoted to the marque.
Where Silverstone was lacking in Ferraris, the event made up for it with the world’s best Aston Martin display. They dedicated a class and a corral to the company that was stuffed with impressive race cars . On hand were many of Aston’s pre-war efforts, as well as the rare DP214. Pebble beach will have a tough time besting Silverstone’s effort.
All the categories, 18 races in all, was captured by our friend Ilya Holt who spent three days in and around Silverstone. His dedication to low shutter photography emphasized speed which can now be seen in our comprehensive gallery.
