The FIA’s Group B rally cars were the classic stars that burned twice as bright for half as long, taking the World Rally Championship into realms of performance where it really didn’t want to go, with ultimately disastrous consequences. Still, these powerful projectiles captivated the imaginations of both competitors and onlookers, while producing a spectacle unlike any other.
Now, in a historic vein, Michelin and Rallying with Group B have announced the UK’s only multi-venue rally for Group B cars and other rally cars of significant note. The Michelin Rallye Groupe B will take place over the bank holiday weekend of August 25-26 on the roads of Cheshire and North Staffordshire, with Special Stages on the grounds of castles and stately homes, and service at the Oulton Park race circuit.
The event intends to recreate the fabled spectacular stages of the RAC Rallies of the 1980s, and will be run as a National B Event under the General Regulation of the UK MSA. It will incorporate the provisions of the International Sporting Code of the FIA and Appendices K and J, both for competition and demonstration.
Rallying with Group B’s members have already reserved more than 60 entries, so there should be cars to suit every taste that will help recapture the heady days of this iconic era of rallying. Further details for the event and updates are available at www.rallyegroupeb.com
