Four McLaren F1 GTRs on the Track

The McLaren F1 GTR is a race-focused version of the McLaren F1 road car, created in response to customer requests urging designer Gordon Murray to build a track-ready model.

To boost performance, the interior was stripped, a roll cage was added, new cooling ducts were installed, and a large adjustable rear wing was attached. Carbon brakes replaced the standard setup, and while homologation limited the engine’s power to around 600 bhp, the car’s lighter weight made it faster and more agile. Key features such as the central driver’s seat, gull-wing doors, and the original gearbox remained intact.

The F1 GTR quickly found success, achieving 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th places in the 1995 Le Mans 24-Hour race and reaching the top speed of 281 kph that year. Over three seasons, 28 GTRs were produced, winning 41 out of 131 races and earning two international titles.

The McLaren F1 GTR continues to amaze enthusiasts, so check out the video below from Robbert Alblas on YouTube to enjoy the thrilling sound of its V12 engine.
