The legend of Le Mans 1966 is unforgettable, with Ford’s determination to defeat Ferrari leading to a historic one-two-three finish. Documentaries, books, and cars, like the 2004 and 2016 Ford GTs, have celebrated this legacy.
Yet, few remember the pivotal year of 1967 when Ford’s Mark IV dominated. Ford’s new GT Mark IV pays homage to this era, blending advanced technology with a rich racing heritage. This track-only beast, with an 800-horsepower engine, a unique carbon fiber longtail body, and over 2,000 kilos of downforce at 200 mph, is a marvel of engineering.
Ford says it would lap Le Mans several seconds faster than the GTLM that won the 24-hour race. It’s more GT1 class than GTE or GT3, evoking rule-bending race cars like the Mercedes CLK GTR. Only 67 of these gloriously aero-focused Mark Vs will be built, each costing from $1.7 million.
