RM Auctions, in association with Sotheby’s, will hold its 2009 Ferrari Leggenda e Passione auction on May 17th at Ferrari S.p.A. in Maranello, Italy.
RM Auctions’ 3rd annual auction is the only auction dedicated to the Ferrari marque, held within the Maranello factory grounds and endorsed by the Ferrari factory. Last year’s event entered the history books when a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spyder, formerly owned by actor James Coburn, sold for $10,894,000 to set a new world record for the highest price ever paid for a vintage motor car at auction.
The 2009 Ferrari Leggenda e Passione event will feature three Maseratis and 34 road and racing Ferraris, headlined by the 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa, which is expected to set a new auction world record at the event; 1967 Ferrari 330 P4 that finished 3rd at the 1967 24 Hours of Le Mans; 1954 Ferrari 500 Mondial; 1962 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California; 1973 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Competizione; 1964 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso Competizione with impressive racing history; series of coachbuilt Ferraris from the collection of Mr. Edgar Schermerhorn; ex-Alain Prost, Spanish Grand Prix-winning 1990 Ferrari 641/2 F1 Racing Car and a Monaco Grand Prix-winning 1956 Maserati 250F Grand Prix Car. As in years past, all cars offered will be certified by Ferrari Classiche.
RM Auctions’ Ferrari Leggenda e Passione event will be held on Ferrari’s Maranello factory grounds in Italy on Sunday, May 17th. A full day preview will be held on Friday, May 15th and Saturday, May 16th. Doors open on May 17th at 9am, with the auction starting at 1:00pm.
