Where: Brands Hatch / Date: August 3, 1963
The “Twenty Guards” Trophy; Brands Hatch, August 3, 1963. Frank Gardner from Australia driving the Ian Walker Racing Brabham BT-5 out of what is now Surtees Corner and onto the new part of the circuit. In 1963, Brabham built two of these mini-BT-8s, fitted with Lotus-Ford twin cam 1,600-cc motors to do battle with the similar Lotus 23s. Gardner won here, proving the superiority of Ron Tauranac’s design. Photo by Colin Waldeck.
