The Web is a funny old place… there is no shortage of sites devoted to the greatest Formula One drivers of all time, names like Clark, Fangio and Senna, but what about the dozens of other drivers who raced in Formula One but didn’t bathe themselves in glory? Fortunately, there is now a site devoted to F1’s less fortunate.
This month’s featured site is devoted entirely to the story of Formula One drivers who scored no more than 2 points in their F1 careers! The list of names is impressive, with more than 60 drivers making the grade – so to speak. Examples include Masami Kuwashima, who goes down in the annals of racing history as having the shortest F1 career of all time. In his one and only F1 race, Kuwashima was so slow that his sponsorship was withdrawn after the first place and he was replaced for the balance of the weekend by another paying driver in the Wolf-Williams.
Other notables on this site include Brit Perry McCarthy, who likely ranks as having had the shortest F1 debut of all time. Driving for the doomed Andrea Moda team, McCarthy got 18 meters down the pitlane for the first practice of his first F1 race, when the engine expired so catastrophically that his entry had to be withdrawn.
Each driver listed on this informative site receives a full biography, listing of race results and photo galleries showing both portraits of the driver and on track action shots. The biographies are written with a dry wit that makes them highly enjoyable reading.
