Two Riders Killed In A Single Day At The Isle Of Man TT
As car guys we get caught up in the excitement of events like The Isle Of Man TT and the record breaking Subaru that smashed the record a few days ago.
We shouldn’t forget that these events are dangerous and that pushing the limit can lead to people getting really hurt and in some cases dying. The same day that the record was broken, the Snaefell Mountain Course claimed its 249th and 250th fatalities.
Australian sidecar rider and Isle of Man resident Dwight Beare, 27, lost his life in a crash around Rhencullen, between the 15- and 16-mile markers on the course. Later in the same day, 50-year-old Paul Shoesmith crashed during Superbike practice on the very fastest part of the course, Sulby Straight.
Official statements are here and here.
A really sad day.
They were mentioned, also as headline, in almost every English newspaper. I don’t follow the TT myself, but even in a vlog on video gaming they were mentioned, so to make a long story short: I don’t think anyone has forgotten how dangerous this time trial is. From all the motorcycle footage that’s available on youtube I’ve that been watching over the years, I lost hope I’d ever grow the guts to keep the throttle that wide open for so long there 😉
