Dana Point Concours (2012) – Honors Legends of Le Mans

The 30th Annual Dana Point Concours d’Elegance®, scheduled for Saturday, June 23 and Sunday, June 24 at the prestigious St. Regis Monarch Beach resort in Dana Point, California, has announced the theme for its 2012 event as “Legends of Le Mans: Racing in the ’60s.” The weekend will feature more than 200 European and American classic cars and more than 50 vintage motorcycles.

“We’re anticipating the 30th annual Concours to be the best event yet,” said Concours president Jeff Spellens. “Our team is working hard to host a fantastic celebration, honoring some of the best racers and racecars of our time. The 1960s were legendary in the automotive industry with names like Shelby, Ferrari, Porsche, Lotus and Alfa Romeo all competing to be the best in the world. We’re thrilled to honor their legacies by celebrating their history during the two-day event.”

To commemorate the historic era, the Concours will be introducing special classes for exhibitors, including the Legends of Le Mans Race Car class and the Shelby Cars class to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Shelby American Inc.  Ducati will be the featured Marque this year for the vintage motorcycle classes.

The Concours opens Saturday with a Private Collection Tour featuring some of the most exclusive automobile collections rarely seen in Southern California, while  Beach goers and surfers will enjoy the Beach Cruisers Show. Saturday’s activities will wrap up with the invitation-only Exhibitors Reception that evening.

The highlight of the weekend will be Sunday morning’s display vehicles check-in beginning at 6:30 a.m. Exhibitors will compete in more than 30 different classes and vie for a variety of prestigious awards, including Best of Show, the Catherine Thyen Award, the Chairman Classic Car Award—selected by Chairman Dick Waitneight—and the Briggs Cunningham Award. Gates open to the public at 9 a.m. Potential entrants can download an exhibitor registration form by visiting www.danapointconcours.org.
